Transfer Student Advising

Major/Minor Information

Please familiarize yourself with the department's undergraduate majors and minor.

Transfer students listing any form of economics as their major on their admissions application will have "proposed" as their status, which is considered undeclared. Students who have taken courses at a community college may have already satisfied some of the lower division economics requirements (i.e., ECON 1, ECON 2, AM/ECON 11A). While the Admissions Office may accept courses toward the UC Santa Cruz degree, it is up to the department to determine whether a course counts towards the major requirements. Students may check online at assist.org to see whether a course they have completed is articulated to satisfy UC Santa Cruz economics requirements.

Students who have completed courses at another four-year institution may be able to apply those courses towards the economics degrees. To do so, students should submit a course syllabus and a course substitution petition to the department requesting to review the coursework. Please note that lower-division coursework cannot be applied to upper-division requirements.

Transfer students must declare by the major declaration deadline in their second quarter of enrollment. Academic calendars found here.
