New Faculty Member Highlight: David Schöenholzer

July 10, 2024

The Economics Department is thrilled to welcome its newest faculty member, Assistant Professor David Schöenholzer to UC Santa Cruz.

David studies public economics and political economy, with interests in development, urban economics, and economic history. David received his B.A. from the University of Zurich, and holds M.S. degrees in statistics from ETH Zurich and in Economics from University College London. He received his Ph.D. in Economics in 2018 from UC Berkeley. After graduating he completed a Postdoctoral position at the Cowles Foundation at Yale, before joining the Institute for International Economics Studies (IIES) at Stockholm University as an Assistant Professor in 2019.

David is thrilled to return to California to enjoy all that the West Coast outdoors has to offer. Although he does not look the part, he has been playing in metal bands for over 20 years and hopes to pick up a guitar again soon.

In the 2024-25 academic year, David will teach intermediate microeconomics (100A) and econometrics (113).

We are excited to have David be a part of our team at the Economics Department!
