Ms. Mosteller-Hall has a M.A. in education with certificate in career counseling from University of South Florida. She has over 10 years of work experience in career counseling and will provide information on developing your resume and cover letter to enhance your graduate-level experiences. Guest speaker Liam Sharpe-Burmester, solar engineer at Allterra Solar, will be speaking at our Applied Economics and Finance Seminar (Economics 294B). Mr. Burmester is an alumnus of UC Santa Cruz with a B.A. in environment studies & economics combined and B.A. in language studies with concentration in Spanish. He brings a wealth of information about transitioning into technical careers; prior to engineering, he worked as a consultant with Allterra Solar in outreach, lead generation, and inside sales and has lived, studied, and worked abroad in various countries.

Optional Practical Training Workshop with International Student & Scholar Services

International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) provides visa and immigration advising to F-1 and J-1 international students at UCSC. They will provide importation information about the Optional Practical Training (OPT) application and process. Attending a ISSS OPT Workshop is required to begin the OPT application and process. All international students are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop.

Guest speakers Christy Peterson and Emerson DuBois, with Andersen Tax, will be speaking at our Applied Economics and Finance Seminar (Economics 294B). Both are UC Santa Cruz undergraduate alumni and Ms. Peterson is a graduate from the M.S. in applied economics and finance program. They will share insights about their professional experience at Andersen Tax and answer questions about the company, which specializes in full service individual and business entity tax compliance and consulting.

Guest speaker Michelle Itabashi, business developer at NOW CFO, will be speaking at our Applied Economics and Finance Seminar (Economics 294B). Ms. Itabashi is an alumnus of UC Santa Cruz with a B.A. in Psychology. After graduation, Michelle moved to San Jose to pursue a career in business development for a full service outsourced CFO, operational accounting, and financial consulting services firm. Her advice to college students is to get involved in professional development opportunities and build your resume.

Monalissa Cairncross, Senior Economist, Internal Revenue Service

Guest speaker Monalissa Cairncross, senior economist at the Internal Revenue Service, will be speaking at our Applied Economics and Finance Seminar (Economics 294B). Ms. Cairncross is an alumnus of UC Santa Cruz M.S. in applied economics and finance program. After graduation, she moved to San Jose and started working for PwC's transfer pricing practice. Later in her career, she joined the international tax division of the Internal Revenue Service as a senior economist. With over 8 years of international tax and transfer pricing experience, she will share insights about her career path/growth as well as her professional experience at PwC and the government.

After completing her masters, she secured a trading associate position with Welton Investment Partners.

Guest speaker Lindsey Giddings, talent acquisition events specialist at Fisher Investments, will be speaking at our Applied Economics and Finance Seminar (Economics 294B). Ms. Giddings earned a B.A. in business management economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She joined a public accounting firm in San Francisco after graduation where she began her career. A couple years later she joined Fisher Investments and is now a part of their Talent Acquisition team. She will share resume tips and discuss the value of transferrable skills especially as it relates to looking for a job right out of college.

Guest speaker Greg Allen, president and director of research at Callen Associates Inc., will be speaking at our Applied Economics and Finance Seminar (Economics 294B). Greg earned an M.S. in applied economics and a B.A. in economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Mr. Allen joined the San Francisco office of Callan in 1988 and has managed a wide variety of projects for Callan, including the development of the firm's performance measurement service, the development of Callan's web site and web-based performance reporting capabilities, and the development and launch of Callan's PEP for WindowsTM software. He is a frequent speaker on investment related topics, and has numerous publications.
